A
large oval grape that is green when less ripe and turns straw yellow to
amber rust as it ripens. Prized as the best-flavored grape, it has a musky
aromatic flavor. It is the oldest "white" grape cultivated, first mentioned
in 1584. Once called the "Muscat of Alexandria," it is now most often
imported from Italy, and called the Italia Muscat.
