Egg-sized
and varying in color from purple, to red, to yellow. The tough skin is
wrinkled when ripe. Named by early missionaries who saw all the elements
of Christ's passion depicted in its flower. To eat, cut in half and use
a spoon to eat the highly fragrant yellow pulp and edible black seeds.
Flavor is both sweet and sour. Native to Brazil.
