Each basket or hamper may include the following apples:

Lamb Abby Pearmain - Sweet & tangy. A rare heirloom variety that is over two hundred years old. It was a spontaneous mutation of the Newport pippin, an American apple introduced into England. Thes apples were one of the first English varieties to have been created from an American apple and were widely popular as a home garden cultivar in the 19th century.  Because of its small size, it became unpopular for commercial production and was primarily cultivated as a speciality  item in gardens. With the revival of heirloom apples in the mid 20th century, a new interest in the Lamb Abby Pearman has developed.

Esopus Spitzenburg - Crisp, sweet-tart. well suited for baking, steaming, and poaching as well as eaten fresh - tossed into salads, alongside cheese platters, or straight out-of-hand. Spitzenburg apples were first discovered in Esopus, NY in the early 18th century. In the 19th century,  Thomas Jefferson planted 32 Spitzenburg apple trees in his Monticello Garden and in time the variey became popular for baking and eating fresh.  The apples were then introduced throughout the rest of the US in the 20th century. Today the Esopus Spitzenburg are grown on specialty farms in the Northeast as well as along the West Coat.

D'Arcy Spice -  Complex flavor that changes over time. Sweet & tangy with notes of nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, and raisins.   The D'Arcy Spice were first discoved in the gardens of Tolleshunt D'arcy Hall in 1785 in Essex, England. To this day, the apples still line the pathway to the entrance of Tolleshunt D'arcy Hall. This variety is primarily grown by speciality growers and home gardens in the UK.

Ashmead's Kernel- Distinctive flavor, that often reminds tasters of the British boiled sweet - Pear Drop.  This variety orginated in the 1700s and is lumpy, mis-shapen, and small.  the green skin is covered in Russet.

Calville Blanc d'Hiver -  These apples come from 1600's Normandy, France and are ideal in making the French classic "tarte aux pommes" as well as used for fillings in American and English baking.  Like the Spitzenburg, Thomas Jefferson grew Calville Blanc d'Hiver in his Monticello Garden.

Rein de Reinette - A domisticated variety orignating in France. It was also formerly known as "Gold Winter Pearmain" since they ripen in the late fall.

Black Reinette - A combination of nutty and citrus flavors. Great for eating out of hand as well as a good cooking apple.  The famous English writer, Edward Bunyard, enjoyed these Reinettes with Port wine.

Blue Pearmain -  Mildy sweet, slight tartness, and dry without much juice. These are an heirloom New England varierty originating  in the 18th century. the Blue Pearmain got its name from the blue bloom mentioned by Thoreau.

Lady Apples aka Pome d'Api -  Sweet-tart and can be eat raw or cooked for full flavor. Ranging in color from  green to red to yellow. When green no longer remains, it becomes nutty in flavor.  the Lady Apple is one America's oldest apple varieties.
